Join us for the in-person meeting of the Fayette County Amateur Radio Club on Thursday March 3/27/2025 @ 7pm. All are welcome to attend.

Presenter: Michael Nelson, KY4ZW (Current FCARC Club Vice President)
Presenter Bio:
Michael Nelson became a ham radio operator in May 2023 after two years of listening and tinkering around with the HackRF and various other SDRs. In August of 2023, he passed his Element 4 examination and received the sequential callsign KY4ZW which he has held ever since. He enjoys DX’ing and is a member of the Southeastern DX Club. He is currently Vice President of the Fayette County Amateur Radio Club. Michael also enjoys the digital side of radio communications, and jumps at opportunities to test new modes of operation involving computer-controlled radio systems.
Currently a PhD candidate in physics at Georgia State University, Michael research focuses on understanding the interaction between light and matter to probe biological samples at the resolution of individual functional groups. He also enjoys teaching, and developed a new set of student labs based on the physics of music and speech. These lab exercises incorporate the use of different gases into musical instruments to understand their mechanisms of operation. Ultimately, Michael would like to continue his line of research and teaching after acquiring his doctorate in Fall of next year.
