Presenter: Paul Colombo – KI4MPZ, President of the North Georgia Tri-State Amateur Radio Club (W4NGT).
He’s a retired deputy sheriff from Palm Beach County FL, where he had a lot of experience using FM 2-way radios. Soon after he retired, Paul became licensed as an amateur Technician in 2003 in West Palm Beach after a series of hurricanes each left them without electricity, telephone or cellular service for a week at a time. For the last 12 years he’s lived in Blairsville GA, which is in Union County next to the NC state line.
Paul joined the North Georgia Tri-State Amateur Radio Club (W4NGT) in Blairsville in 2013 and currently serves as the club’s President. Through a mutual friend, he was contacted by George Fenn after he heard that their club started to use the somewhat obscure NXDN digital mode on their 2-meter repeater.
Paul is going to share with us about their decision to use the very narrow 6.25 kHz version of NXDN digital, along with analog, on the club’s Mixed Mode Kenwood NXR-710 repeater.
