03 Feb FEBRUARY 2023 CLUB MEETING – DX’ing 101
Join us for the in-person February 2023 meeting of the Fayette County Amateur Radio Club on 2/23/23 @ 7pm. All are welcome.
THIS month’s program is entitled “DX’ing 101” by Dr. Jeff Cantor, K1ZN, of the Southeast DX Club. Jeff is the author of the book Nifty E-Z Guide to Adventures in DXing. Most everyone has dreamed of using distant radio communication (DXing) to talk with people in interesting and distant lands.Jeff draws on his many years of DXing to highlight: signal propagation characteristics, spotting clusters and other resources used for finding DX stations. Once contacts have been made, the fine points of QSLing and applying for DX award programs are described. For those looking for something more, there is the challenge of working DX on the Top and Magic Bands, and the excitement of working QRP.
NEXT month’s program will be a tape measure Yagi antenna build, led by Joe (KI4ASK) & Mary Catherine (KI4HHI) Domaleski. This will be a hands-on class in which each participant will build an antenna you can use for fox hunting, working VHF amateur radio satellites, or any other VHF application. The basic plan we’ll be following is this one – http://theleggios.net/wb2hol/projects/rdf/tape_bm.htm. There will be a small cost involved for the materials, but we’ll provide everything needed. Stay tuned for more details.
Meeting will be held at the Fayette County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 110 Volunteer Way, Fayetteville, GA. The EOC is co-located with the 911 center.
