FCARC – CQ Worldwide Foxhunting Weekend (local event) on 5/8-5/9

The weekend of May 8-9, 2021 is “CQ Worldwide Foxhunting Weekend” (CQ WW FW). It’s also Mother’s Day weekend, so we thought we’d try something new – a drive-by fox hunt that’ll run most of the weekend and you can do it when you want!

The fox will be operating from within Fayette County, GA on a frequency of 147.555 and will be operational from 7am-7pm (local) on Saturday 5/8 and again on Sunday 5/9. We do have permission to operate the fox all weekend at the location you will find it at.

Once you find the fox, there will be a box in which you can place your QSL card, a business card, or a notecard. We need to know your name, callsign, email, and address. There will be a prize drawing from those of you who find the fox.

You can activate the fox yourself! Key the fox on with DTMF Tone 3 or 8 for about 2 seconds. After a 45 second fox transmission, transmitter sleeps for 4 minutes, then gives quick ID. Then you can re- key it!You probably want to get familiar with your radio ahead of time. The DTMF is the key number on the radio that you might have never used! Maybe check your manual beforehand to figure out how to transmit DTMF.

The fox hunt leader is Ross Pryor, AJ4P. If you have any questions about the hunt, please contact him directly via email. Ross’s email is good on QRZ.com.

We hope to see your card in the box, so figure out the DTMF function on your radio and come find the fox this weekend. Don’t forget to spend time with the mothers in your life also.
