About our speaker
Bob Gibler, NF5F, caught the radio bug when he was about 8 years old after receiving a used short wave radio from his dad. In 1969 he was licensed as WN2JNO and developed a consuming passion for CW. Within a year he upgraded his ticket to the Advanced class and his call to WA2JNO. An equally consuming passion for chasing VHF DX and operating traffic nets ensued. Later, while stationed in Germany, he operated HF as DA1NW, often from the comfort of an armored personnel carrier. In 1981, while attending the University of Houston, Bob upgraded his license to Extra and received the call, NF5F. He also holds the Commercial Telegraph (T), and General Radiotelephone Operator Licenses (GROL). His current interests include software defined radio and operating digital modes.
