SEPT 2025 – Club Meeting on 9/25 – W4OGM Test Equipment for the Radio Amateur

Meeting Date  Thursday 9/25/25 @ 7pm

Join us for the in-person meeting of the Fayette County Amateur Radio Club on Thursday 9/25/25 @ 7pm. All are welcome to attend.

The location and time are same as always:

Time: 7pm EDT
Location: Fayette County Emergency Operations Center at 110 Volunteer Way, Fayetteville, GA.

Topic: Test Equipment for the Radio Amateur

Presenter: Steve Yothment, W4OGM

Presenter Bio:

Steve graduated from Purdue University in 1975 with a BSEE

degree.  He has worked at the following companies, mostly as an RF Engineer:

  •    Motorola, Two-Way Products Division
  •    Magnavox, Government Electronics Division
  •    Scientific Atlanta  (Cable TV Products Engineer)
  •    Panasonic Automotive (Car Radio Design Engineer)

Steve became a ham in 1973 as WN9NWX and was active with the Purdue

University Amateur Radio Club (W9YB).  He has also held call letters of

WB9NWX, WD9AVB, WD0HGB, and W4OGM. Steve is also the current FCARC Club Treasurer.

Presenter’s Notes:

Maybe the title is a bit facetious, because I don’t expect our members

to buy a lot of test equipment.  The fact is that we don’t even need the

old-fashioned idea of a bench full of test equipment.  There are much

less expensive options available today.  Much of the equipment that we

already have can be used for testing our radios with good success.  We

can also download free PC or cellphone software to provide many

functions, like an audio generator, audio analyzer, or oscilloscope.

And modern SDRs provide a frequency spectrum display and other features

that can substitute for a Spectrum Analyzer and Modulation Analyzer.  I

plan to show how we can do measurements of radio performance with

inexpensive tools that we probably already have, using free software to

make it all happen.

I invite members to bring their 2-m HTs to the meeting and we can

measure FM modulation level with simple equipment that I will have at

the meeting.

Meeting Location

The meeting will be held at the Fayette County Emergency Operations Center at 110 Volunteer Way, Fayetteville, GA.

The club meeting will also be live streamed if you are not able to make it in person.

NEW LOCATION for the Eating before the Meeting as of 9/23/2025

Apologies in advance for the last minute change. Someone reminded me (thank you) that the FCARC typically meets for dinner in September at City Cafe and Bakery in order to take advantage of the festive Oktoberfest environment. This has been a fun time for everyone in the past and we would like to keep going again this year.

So, in keeping with tradition and to take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity, the location of the Eating Before the Meeting has changed to:

Location: City Cafe and Bakery215 Glynn St S, Fayetteville, GA 30214.
Time: The time is still the same at 5:00pm.

There will be a table on the porch for the club with seating for ten people.
Additional seating is available for overflow. The menu can be found on their website here: https://www.citycafeandbakery.com/oktoberfest

No RSVP needed due to the last minute change. Hope to see you there!
